Methodology: where Fareaway's prices come from
This page explains exactly what you see on Fareaway's map and pages: where fares come from, how an offer is selected, what "other dates", "fare seen 3 days ago" or "90-day low" mean, and the limits of the method.
The fare source
Fares come from Aviasales (Travelpayouts group) through its data API. They are real fares observed in recent searches made by other travellers: round trip, per person, economy, taxes included. Each fare is timestamped by the provider; we show that age ("fare seen 3 days ago"). The median age of a displayed fare is about three days, the maximum one week.
As a consequence, Fareaway only covers routes that were actually searched recently. A rare destination may be missing, or shown with a fare found for a different period than the one requested.
How an offer is selected
For each destination and the requested month, Fareaway keeps the cheapest offer whose trip length is close to the requested one (within ±35%). When two offers are within 10% of each other, the fresher one wins: a fare cached six days ago is more likely gone than one seen yesterday. Offers whose departure has passed, or flagged outdated by the provider, are excluded.
If no offer exists for the requested month, the destination stays visible with the best fare found over the next twelve months, labelled "Other dates" and dashed on the map, with its real dates. Fallbacks departing in less than seven days are not offered. The "Nonstop only" filter keeps offers without stops.
Stops and flight time
The number of stops is that of the selected offer. The displayed duration ("≈ 2h35 each way") is half of the offer's total outbound + return time, stops included: an approximation per leg.
Nightly checks and "90-day low"
Every night at 03:00 UTC, Fareaway records fares from twelve departure cities for the next three months, and also logs every search made on the map. This history feeds the destination card's trend line and the "90-day low" signal, given when today's fare is at the lowest recorded level within 5%, with at least seven days of records. The "Deals" pages list destinations in that situation.
Weather, cost of living, total budget
The temperature shown is the monthly mean observed over the last full year (Open-Meteo data) at the city's coordinates: a climate normal, not a forecast. Cost of living is a country-level estimate of a traveller's daily budget (basic lodging, meals, local transport); "total budget" = flight price + daily cost × days of the trip shown. These amounts are indicative and exclude activities.
What Fareaway does not do
Fareaway does not sell tickets, does not alter any price and does not guarantee any fare: the final price is always the one shown by the partner when you book. Fareaway creates no user accounts and stores no personal data linked to your searches (see the privacy policy). Partner links are affiliate links, marked as such; they do not change the price you pay.
